Gods, goddesses, and the problems with -esses

[god vs. goddess, godless vs. goddessless]
Then are those who believe only in female gods to be described as godless?
Poster 2:
I think the problem is that with the word god we still can refer to a genderless deity, or female deities without expressing their gender.
So for me godless would be atheists.
I just don't think you can have it both ways. The word "god" has to be either male or gender-neutral. If you use the word "goddess" to distinguish female gods, then a "god" has to be male. I guess this is the meta-him/her problem.
